Straight From the Source

Today, Biosyndica is adding a ‘Press Release‘ page. Here you can find links to source material to a growing collection of key biology-related public policy players across the spectrum. This increases transparency by eliminating the media opinion and allows you to make the decisions. These sites usually release material daily and can provide a key means to keep interested individuals informed. Biosyndica makes this easy by providing one page with all of these links.

Here at Biosyndica: “We provide the news, you provide the opinion”.

If you have any organizations you feel that Biosyndica is missing, please comment below. Also, remember to follow the editor on Twitter @_michaelwilkins.

The Federal Drug Administration announced yesterday that it was easing a July 2008 ban  on Cephalosporins in cattle, swine, chickens, and turkeys, the major species of food-producing animals.  Originally, the FDA had banned this potent class of antibiotics within the US food chain, citing the growing concern with drug-resistant bacteria. The new policy will become effective on April 5, 2012.

BioSyndica is 2.0!

Three months ago I founded BioSyndica to fullfill a need to increase the visibility and transparency of US biology-related public policy and legislation. I did not however, recognize how much interest and support it would generate. Already viewership has doubled since last month alone. I quickly realized that there was no feature to share BioSyndica and its articles across multiple social media platforms.

Let the Syndication begin!

This marks the official completion of the design of the BioSyndica site. Two months ago I started BioSyndica to fulfill an unmet need for myself, and others, for a site to give insight and commentary across the spectrum of biology-related public policy within the United States. Continue reading

‘The National Monitor’ : Pushing IONM from medical room to mainstream

As I continue on the development of BioSyndica, I have become a contributing writer for ‘Surgical Neurophysiology and Neuromonitoring’.  Today, in collaboration with the founders of their organization, we launched The National Monitor with yours truly as the host.  The National Monitor will address the issues that hold back the Neuromonitoring industry from a greater exposure in the US healthcare system.

Coming Soon

Dear Reader,

Welcome. I’m Mike Wilkins, the editor of BioSyndica. Over the next month and a half I will be developing the structure and design for the home of the BioSyndica website. BioSyndica will begin as my personal exploration of Biology-related public policy and be used as a way for me to exercise my academic writing abilities. Many of the posts on BioSyndica will be steered towards my expertise in Neurophysiology and my interest in Biosecurity/Biodefense. It is my intention to grow BioSyndica to include experts in the field and to support cross-learning initiatives around BioSyndica’s primary focus area.

As the design of BioSyndica comes to completion no later than September 30th, 2011, I encourage others join in as guest contributors. These are uncertain times we live in and hopefully this blog will serve to make biology-related public policy a bit more transparent and accessible.

Many thanks to future readers.

Best Regards,
Michael Wilkins

IONM: Contributing to a lower cost, higher quality healthcare system (via Surgical Neurophysiology & Neuromonitoring)

A guest piece I wrote for ‘Surgical Neurophysiology and Neuromonitoring’.

IONM: Contributing to a lower cost, higher quality healthcare system On Capitol Hill, from whispers to pure rage, the heated discussion of economic reform is the constant talk of congressional members and their staff.  Savings within the U.S. healthcare system have been one of the largest topics focused upon within this debate. In a statement by Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (2011), Congressman Smith pointed out that … Read More
